Description

by GIUSEPPE VERDI

When Verdi premiered La Traviata in 1853, its libretto shocked audiences for exposing so openly the vices of a bourgeois society devoted to gambling and women. Violetta, the protagonist of this story, has since become one of opera’s most iconic heroines, embodying a dramatic tale of love and death that starkly contrasts with the frivolity of her time.

Alongside its social critique, the score showcases Verdi at his finest, dramatically powerful and musically innovative in its melody, harmony and rhythm. La Traviata ultimately became a milestone in the entire history of music.

Under the baton of Martin Mázik, the soloists and orchestra of the Ópera 2001 company, together with the Coro Lírico Siciliano, bring to Altea one of the essential masterpieces for opera lovers —a benchmark of lyrical beauty and emotional depth.
